Tamasha World: "Zindagi Ek Tamasha"
Tamasha is a film that constantly reminds us that we are living in a contrived world. The personas we show to the world are not our true selves.
Everyone is a Don, seeking their Mona Darling in their dreams, yet bound by the tight ropes of corporate routines in their reality. We sit in our chairs, waiting for a Tara to come along, hold up a mirror, and tell us, "This is not who you are. You are meant to be someone else."
Despite this, we continue playing our roles as actors in the grand stage of our own lives, often losing sight of our true identities.
In "Tamasha," Ranbir Kapoor plays Ved, a man trapped in the monotony of corporate life. On the surface, he is a sophisticated, well-mannered manager, but deep down, he is a storyteller, a dreamer, the Don of his own world.
It's only when Tara (Deepika Padukone) and the old storyteller (Piyush Mishra) come into his life that Ved is reminded of his true self. They help him see beyond the facade he has created, encouraging him to embrace his real identity and passions. Ultimately, Ved breaks free from the constraints of his corporate persona and becomes the person he was always meant to be.
An integral scene to Ved’s story, is one where he goes to meet the storyteller, asking him to tell Ved what his story is. Piyush Mishra yells, asking Ved why he needs him to tell him his story, what is he afraid of, who else is there, and asks him, tell me what happens next, tell me your story, what is in your heart, what do you want? “Chahta kya hai tu?” these words are eye awakening for Ved because no one had ever before asked him what he wanted.
