“Agar mann ho toh Dilli door nahi” which means if you truly wish to come, then Delhi isn’t far. These were the words of an energetic, enthusiastic, and creative girl named Shweta Singh. This is how I first met her online.
Let me explain the whole story. It was around mid-May or June in 2018 when I got connected with this talented girl on Facebook. A girl who completely changed the traditional poetry scene, she went viral with her slam poetry a new form of expression at that time. One of her videos reached three million views on the Nojoto channel, yet she carried no ego, no self-proclaimed greatness, no false aura around her.
During those days, I had shared an emotional piece of writing on Facebook, and that’s how we started talking. Soon after, the Delhi Poetry Festival 2018 was announced at IIT Delhi, and she suggested we meet there. At first, I made some silly excuses, but then she said, “Agar mann ho toh Delhi door nahi, Harsh.” Those words struck me, and I finally decided to go. That’s when I met this crazy girl short in height but with a long and visionary outlook on creative life.
After that viral video, she toured across India, performing solo shows and collaborating with some amazing YouTube artists. But her dream was always bigger she wanted to be a writer, a writer who could create everything: web series, short stories, films. Eventually, she moved to Mumbai, carrying her dreams and talent along. Mumbai a city crowded with dreamers, where everyone is running to become something, where no one really cares for another, and where people just want to find their space somehow. Yet Shweta stood her ground with passion, creativity, and resilience.
Shweta Singh a superstar girl who made her own space in the creative and film industry. Shweta Singh, a self-made girl, created her own space in the creative and film industry. She had already gained millions of views on her slam poetry video and built a fan base all over India. But instead of just living on that fame, she chose to be a writer, performer, and true artist someone who understands both art and artists.
In her early days in Mumbai, she barely managed her expenses, but she never put any burden on her family. Slowly, she started getting work from one of the most prominent YouTube channels and a pillar of Indian YouTube creators TVF. She began writing scripts for their videos, and her work gradually started gaining attention. Even then, she wasn’t fully settled in Mumbai. But she never gave up. She kept trying, and finally, she got her first real breakthrough when She wrote entire short story videos for Girliyapa, Alright, and RVCJ channel, and also did an interview with the most famous and loved actor of Bollywood and Pollywood, Jimmy Shergill. That’s where her real story began.
A girl who wrote many promotional ads and monologues has now received the opportunity to write an entire series for Amazon miniTV called Campus Beats, which ran for five seasons and was loved immensely by the audience. She is a girl who did not come from a privileged background, but from a simple middle class family. Not only did she manage to survive in the industry an industry where we often hear countless stories of harassment and exploitation but she also made her own space in it. Today, she works with great Bollywood actors and OTT stars, yet her love for poetry has never faded. She still takes time out for poetry, and once again, she is performing storytelling and poetry shows alongside her scriptwriting career. Her work in both poetry and scriptwriting continues to be praised by audiences, especially the youth. She recently performed at India's most famous and biggest Literature and Art Festival organised by Kommune India.
She is that kind of artist who knows no limits someone who can cheer up anyone, regardless of age, condition, or emotion. She has everything that a true artist should have, yet she remains humble, grounded, and always extends a helping hand to others. I always remember one of her lines:
“Kya pata ye sirf ek kahani ka qissa ho, aur aage kahani baaki ho.”
Perhaps my writing does not fully justify her talent and struggle. I have only described the most talented and prominent personality of this universe in a few words. I am damn sure that one day someone will write a book on her. She will be the next superstar writer of the industry someone who can do everything like Anurag Kashyap or Nandita Roy. If you ever meet her, just sit with her, and you will experience some of the most amazing moments of your life. Her dedication towards her work is truly admirable.Sometimes we fail, sometimes we win, and most of the time people like me surrender, even choosing death over failure. But Shweta is completely opposite of that. She has never surrendered. I don’t know what power drives her, but she often quotes Shahrukh Khan’s famous line:
“Agar kisi cheez ko tum shiddat se chaho, toh saari qaynat lag jaati hai tumhare saath us cheez ko paane ke liye.” Which means If you want something desperately, the whole universe will come together to help you achieve it.
